Join us for an inspiring conversation with Ambassador Cheryl Bazard, The Bahamas' ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU. In addition to her current mission, she will discuss her earlier role as the Co-Executive Director of the Vote Yes Bahamas Campaign for the Constitutional Referendum on Gender Equality, and the impact the "no" vote ultimately had - and still has.
BIOGRAPHY
Ambassador Bazard is a Bahamian diplomat, politician, and lawyer. She is The Bahamas' ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, and served as a senator from 2012 to 2017.
Ambassador Bazard holds certificates in money laundering risk in Betting and Gaming, AML and Compliance from the International Compliance Association (ICA) and is a Fellow of ICA and sat on its International Advisory Board. She also holds a Certificate in Latin America Health Care Compliance from the University of Miami. She is the founding President of the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO) which was formed in 1999 and served a 2nd term from 2018 to 2020.
For her stellar efforts in the Bahamas’ financial services sector, Ambassador Bazard was awarded Compliance Officer of the Year in 2002 and the Bahamas Financial Services Board Professional Excellence Award in 2003.
She completed her LL.B. with honours from the University of Buckingham and was awarded the Tunku Abdul Rahman prize for a First Class Pass in International Law. She was called to the Bars of England & Wales and The Bahamas Bar in 1991. She has a Master’s Degree in Financial Compliance Risk Management (Summa Cum Laude). She is a former member on various governmental Boards as well as the Ethics Committee of the Bahamas Bar Association. She was a member of Bar Council as Treasurer and during that term, the Bahamas Bar’s mortgage on its office building was satisfied.
