04/11/2024 - From 19h30 to 21h30 - Public

You are warmly invited to an event to help you navigate the complexities of sexuality in the digital age. This session is tailored for mothers, female care-givers and their teenage daughters providing a safe space to explore some of the most pressing and often difficult questions about growing up in an increasingly digital world.

Topics of Discussion:

Sexting

  • Is it normal? Why do people do it?
  • Recognizing red flags* and knowing what to do when something feels off.
  • Legal considerations and handling leaked nudes.

Meeting People Online

  • Identifying real vs. fake profiles.
  • Understanding online grooming* and addressing predatory behavior.

Online Porn

  • Exploring why people watch it and its potential impact.

Bridging the Gap

  • Why does my child do “stupid” things?
  • Why are parents so “dumb”?
  • … and how to get the “stupid” to reach out to the “dumb” when in need?

Bio

Hi! My name is Kirande Nijenhuis and most of you know me as a digital marketeer. What few people know is that I actually studied social psychology and graduated cum laude for my Master’s in Sexology at KU Leuven. The topic of my thesis was “adolescent sexual development during the digital era”.

Our girls have so much going for them. (Don’t we love the internet?) But there are also new kinds of danger. (Don’t we hate the internet?!) We cannot keep our children away from online communication. So what can we do? I can help you with the first step: making you aware of their online world, what are common online behaviours and what still lies in your power to promote safety and well-being.
